Tablature Area FAQ

General

What is the difference between the "Popular Music" and "Originals & Independent Artists" sections?

The Popular Music section is for artists that are established and well-known in their genre -- artists that have released albums, have a web site, tour, and the like. Typically, if the artist's CDs can be found on a site like amazon.com, then the artist qualifies to be listed under Popular Music.

The Originals & Independent Artists section is for individuals who have composed original songs using TabIt, and for unsigned/obscure artists that don't meet the criteria for being listed in Popular Music.

Can I get someone to tab a song for me?

Try posting a request in the Tab Requests section of the Forums. There is no guarantee that anyone will tab your song, however. All who create and submit tabs do so voluntarily.

When I try to download a tab, a message comes up stating "The system cannot find the file specified". How can I fix this?

Some have experienced this problem, and we aren't sure what causes it. The solution is to clear Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet Files as follows:

Internet Explorer 7:
  1. Inside Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Delete Browsing History.
  2. Click the Delete files... button, then Yes.
  3. Click Close.
Internet Explorer 6:
  1. Inside Internet Explorer, click Tools | Internet Options.
  2. On the General tab, click the Delete Files... button.
  3. Click OK, then Cancel.

There once was a .zip file containing all tabs on the site. What happened to it?

The tablature archive grew so large that a single .zip file containing all tabs was no longer practical. It has been replaced with per-artist and per-user .zip files.

To download a .zip file containing all tabs by a particular artist, navigate to the artist's page and click the link at the bottom.

To download all tabs submitted by a particular user, click the user's name, and on the subsequent page click the link at the bottom.

Tab Submission

I've created a tab and want to submit it to the site. How can I do this?

First, click the Log In link on the left. If you haven't already done so, you will have to create a user name for uploading tabs. You will be given an opportunity to do this after clicking the Log In link. Note that you must be a registered user of TabIt in order to submit tabs.

After you have logged in, navigate to the artist's folder in which you would like to submit a tab and click the Upload Tab Here link on the left.

There is no folder for the artist.

Click the Request a Folder link on the left to request that a folder be added.

Can I submit tabs copied from books or magazines?

No. This would be a violation of copyright. Tabs found to be copied from books or magazines will be taken down if discovered or reported.

I uploaded a tab but don't see it in the folder.

Try pressing the Refresh or Reload button in your browser.

I'm trying to log in with the user name and password I use on the Forums, but it's not working. Why?

The Tablature Area and Forums do not share the same user database. Therefore, it is necessary to create a separate account for logging into the Tablature Area. When creating the account, you may use the same user name that you used on the Forums, provided it's not already taken.
